Live from New York, it's trouble in Saturday Night land.
A New York judge has upheld a stalking charge against a Long Island man accused of pestering SNL mastermind Lorne Michaels.
According to the complaint, Evans Pidhajecky, a 31-year-old native of Oyster Bay, became an unwanted pen pal of the 63-year-old producer and turned up unannounced on several occasions at NBC's 30 Rock headquarters and Michaels' home near Central Park.
His reason? A distressed Pidhajecky believed his thoughts were being stolen by Michaels and then used as SNL fodder.
Peter Brill, a lawyer for the accused, argued Tuesday in court that his client was not out to menace the SNL honcho but simply wanted to chat with about his supposed psychic powers. That plan whent south went Pidhajecky was arrested in December and charged with stalking and resisting arrest.
"Just because you're Lorne Michaels doesn't mean nobody can get in touch with you," Brill told the judge, per New York magazine. "He wrote him a couple of times. Then he visited the concierge [at Michael's apartment building] and spoke to him in a very nice voice."
That line of reasoning failed to convince Manhattan Criminal Court Justice Marc Whiten, who refused to dismiss the misdemeanor stalking count, saying Pidhajecky had "no legitimate purpose" to appear at Michaels' home and scared the producer, who supposedly could read Pidhajecky's mind but in reality had no clue about the man's intentions.
