-Ratings Breakdown:
NBC's Beijing Summer Olympics steamroller continued, with a whopping 18.4 rating/29 share in the overnights for the prime-time (8-11 p.m.) portion. Take a look at the half-hour breakdown:
2008 Summer Olympics (NBC)
8:00 p.m. 14.5/24
8:30 p.m. 16.7/26
9:00 p.m. 19.2/29
9:30 p.m. 19.6/30
10:00 p.m. 20.0/31
10:30 p.m. 20.4/33
Comparably, the Olympics beat the four competing networks combined by 79 percent, and these Tuesday overnights were an improvement of four percent from Athens (19.0/31 vs. 18.1/28) and 28 percent from Sydney (19.0/31 vs. 14.9/24). The 19.0/31 is the full 8-11:44 p.m. average.
Distant second-place CBS opened the evening with a repeat of NCIS at a 5.4/ 9 in the overnights (#2) at 8 p.m., followed by Big Brother 10 (#2: 3.6/ 6) and a repeat of recently relocated Without a Trace (#2t, 3.3/ 5) from 9-11 p.m. As expected, Dan did not use the POV on Big Brother last night, and it will be either April or Jerry sent packing tomorrow. My advice to April: get your bags ready!
ABC was barely on the map with repeats of Wipeout (#3: 3.3/ 5) and Wanna Bet (#4: 2.1/ 3) from 8-10 p.m., followed by Primetime Medical Mysteries at a 3.3/ 5 (#2t) at 10 p.m. Fox aired repeats of House (#4: 2.6/ 4) and another episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (#4: 2.4/ 4). And the CW capped off the evening with repeats of Beauty and the Geek (#5: 0.7/ 1) and Reaper (#4: 0.9/ 1), which is expected to replace veteran Smallville in midseason. Coming up on Tuesday, Sept. 2: the two-hour launch of 90210 on the CW. Are you going to watch?
